Project SHINE Atlanta
Volunteers Are Needed for the Following
Classes

Overview
In Atlanta, Project SHINE is led by a partnership between Emory University
and Georgia Perimeter College. Emory and GPC are currently working with Clarkston
Community Center, Dekalb Technical College, and Boat People SOS to place SHINE coaches.
Students from Emory and GPC serve as coaches in English as a Second Language (ESL)
and Citizenship classes in these organizations. Coaches work under the supervision
of a lead teacher and often assist one older learner or a small group of learners
in need of extra help. No prior experience is necessary, but we welcome students
who speak other languages and have had prior tutoring or cross-cultural experience.
SHINE volunteers commit to serve 2 hours a week for 10 weeks during
a semester. Training is provided at the beginning and middle of service,
and we celebrate our successes together with a Reflection Ceremony at
the end of each term.
